Immune Resilience & Iron Optimization System
The human immune system evolved alongside a specific protein — lactoferrin — naturally present in colostrum, saliva, tears, and other biological fluids where it serves as a first-line defense protein. For the first time in supplement history, it is now possible to deliver that protein in its exact human form: same amino acid sequence, same structure, same biological recognition. Not bovine. Not approximate. Human-identical.*
immunoRESTORE+ combines three next-generation biotechnology ingredients — each addressing a distinct and non-redundant aspect of immune and gut health — in the most scientifically advanced immune resilience formula Healthgevity has formulated.*

effera® (Human-Identical Lactoferrin)
Role: Iron Optimization, Mucosal Immunity & Microbiome Foundation Healthgevity HCP Exclusive · Developed by Helaina
Lactoferrin is one of the most multifunctional proteins in the human immune system. Naturally present in colostrum, saliva, tears, and mucosal secretions, it binds and transports iron — and through that iron-binding mechanism, it does something remarkable: it starves pathogens of the iron they need to replicate while simultaneously supporting the iron availability that immune cells and epithelial tissues need to function.*
Lactoferrin also supports a balanced gut microbiome environment, promoting conditions favorable to beneficial bacteria while creating an inhospitable environment for pathogenic organisms. It supports mucosal immune layers, gut barrier integrity, and healthy inflammatory response signaling — making it a foundational protein for immune, gut, and systemic health.*
Lactoferrin has been studied for decades. But there has always been a fundamental problem with supplemental lactoferrin: every commercially available form has come from bovine (cow) sources. Bovine lactoferrin is structurally different from human lactoferrin — and the human immune system notices.
The Critical Difference Between Human and Bovine Lactoferrin
In a landmark randomized, double-blind, controlled trial published in the International Journal of Toxicology (Peterson et al., 2024), 66 healthy adults were randomized to three groups: high-dose effera®, low-dose effera®, or bovine lactoferrin, for 28 days with follow-up to day 84.
The results revealed a critical distinction between the two forms:*
Bovine lactoferrin group: Participants developed a significant antibody response against the protein, with antibody levels rising approximately 3-fold above baseline by day 56. The body recognized bovine lactoferrin as a foreign protein and mounted an immune response against it.*
effera® groups (both high and low dose): No antibody production against the protein was detected at any time point. The body did not mount an immune response against effera® — consistent with the immune system treating it as its own native protein.*
This is the biological significance of human-identical structure. When the immune system encounters a protein with the exact same amino acid sequence as one it already produces, it does not mount an alloimmune response. The protein is recognized as self, not foreign — delivering full biological activity without triggering the defensive response that limits the effectiveness of bovine lactoferrin over time.*
How effera® Is Made
effera® is produced by Helaina using precision fermentation — a technology that programs Komagataella phaffii (a food-grade yeast) to express human lactoferrin using the exact genetic sequence of the human protein. The result is a protein with an identical amino acid sequence to lactoferrin naturally found in human milk and other human fluids — structurally indistinguishable from the body's own lactoferrin.*
The development of effera® required over 35 scientists, more than 5 years of development, and the generation of a comprehensive safety dossier — including GLP-certified toxicology studies establishing a no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of 2,000 mg/kg body weight per day, approximately 400 times the proposed human intake — and a scientific expert panel working with the FDA on the safety study roadmap for novel precision-fermented proteins.*
effera® is backed by 49 patents, 2 human clinical studies, and 5 preclinical studies.*
effera® is available in immunoRESTORE+ as a Healthgevity HCP Exclusive — the first and primary practitioner-channel formula in the US to feature this ingredient.*
IMMUSE® (Lactococcus lactis strain Plasma / LC-Plasma)
Role: Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cell Activation — Innate Immune Readiness
IMMUSE® is a postbiotic ingredient derived from heat-treated Lactococcus lactis strain Plasma (LC-Plasma) — a non-live bacterial strain with a uniquely specific and well-characterized mechanism of immune activation that sets it apart from conventional probiotics and most other immune ingredients.*
The mechanism: LC-Plasma is the only known lactic acid bacterium that directly activates plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) — through phagocytosis and TLR9 stimulation — and induces interferon-alpha (IFN-α) production.* In comparative testing with five heat-killed bacterial strains at standardized cell concentrations, only LC-Plasma induced measurable IFN-α production from pDCs (73.8 ± 2.5 pg/mL at the recommended daily dose). Other strains adhered to the cell surface without being internalized; LC-Plasma was actively phagocytosed.*
Why pDC Activation Matters
Plasmacytoid dendritic cells are specialized immune sentinels — among the most potent producers of type I and III interferons in the body, and key coordinators of the early antiviral immune response. When pDCs are activated, they produce IFN-α rapidly in the innate immune phase — directly inhibiting viral replication — and subsequently activate downstream T-cell and B-cell adaptive immune responses.*
pDC activity tends to decline with age, contributing to the reduced immune responsiveness seen in older adults. IMMUSE® specifically targets this pathway — supporting the innate immune surveillance function that underpins immune readiness across seasons and environmental challenges.*
As a postbiotic, IMMUSE® delivers its benefits through stable, bioactive compounds rather than live organisms — meaning its activity is not dependent on gut colonization, surviving stomach acid, or competing with existing microbiome populations. It is consistent, stable, and immune-specific.*
Clinical Evidence:*
- Meta-analysis of 8 randomized controlled trials (published in Frontiers in Immunology, 2025, Kato et al.): oral intake of LC-Plasma activates pDCs and reduces cold-like symptoms in healthy adults, confirmed across multiple independent trials*
- More than 30 scientific publications including 15 human trials*
- Studies demonstrate support for healthy immune signaling without overstimulating immune function*

2'-FL (2'-Fucosyllactose / Human Milk Oligosaccharide)
Role: Selective Prebiotic — Bifidobacterium Support, Gut Barrier & Gut-Immune Communication
2'-Fucosyllactose (2'-FL) is the most abundant human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) in human breast milk — the primary prebiotic that shapes the infant gut microbiome in early life, selecting for Bifidobacterium populations that dominate the healthy infant gut and establish the immune-microbiome relationship that persists through life.*
In adults, the gut microbiome's Bifidobacterium populations — and the short-chain fatty acids, particularly butyrate, that they produce — are closely associated with gut barrier integrity, healthy inflammatory tone, and effective immune-gut communication. 2'-FL supplementation selectively stimulates Bifidobacterium growth in adults, supporting the microbiome environment that underpins these benefits.*
In immunoRESTORE+, 2'-FL provides the prebiotic foundation layer — selectively nourishing the beneficial Bifidobacterium populations that support gut barrier integrity and healthy gut-immune communication, complementing effera®'s direct mucosal immune and iron support.*
WHY THESE THREE INGREDIENTS TOGETHER
The Three Layers of Immune Foundation
effera® addresses the innate protein layer — delivering the exact human lactoferrin that modulates iron availability, supports mucosal immunity, and creates a favorable gut environment, without triggering an immune response that would limit its effectiveness.*
IMMUSE® addresses the immune surveillance layer — activating pDCs to support the innate and adaptive immune readiness that determines how quickly and effectively the immune system can respond to environmental challenges.*
2'-FL addresses the microbiome foundation layer — selectively nourishing the Bifidobacterium populations whose short-chain fatty acid production, gut barrier support, and immune communication form the ecological foundation from which immune resilience emerges.*
Three ingredients. Three distinct biological mechanisms. One formula designed for comprehensive immune foundation support.*
